Board makers (ODMs)
Most laptop main boards are designed by an ODM, not by the brand on the lid. The board number printed on the PCB follows the ODM's own scheme, which is why one board appears in several brands' models.
ODMs
- BitlandBitland is a Chinese ODM that built several Lenovo IdeaPad models.
- ClevoClevo is a Taiwanese notebook maker whose barebones are rebranded by many system builders.
- CompalCompal Electronics is a Taiwanese ODM that designs and builds notebooks for Dell, HP, Lenovo, Acer, Toshiba and others.
- FoxconnFoxconn (Hon Hai) manufactures desktop motherboards and notebooks for many brands, including OEM boards for HP and Sony.
- InventecInventec is a Taiwanese ODM best known for HP business and consumer notebooks.
- LCFCLCFC is Lenovo's notebook manufacturing joint venture with Compal; its boards use NM- numbers.
- MSIMSI designs its own notebook and desktop boards and also makes OEM desktop boards for other brands.
- PegatronPegatron is a Taiwanese ODM (spun off from Asus) that builds desktop boards and notebooks for several brands.
- QuantaQuanta Computer is a Taiwanese ODM that manufactures notebooks for HP, Dell, Acer, Lenovo, Apple and other brands.
- WistronWistron is a Taiwanese ODM (spun off from Acer) that builds notebooks and desktops for Dell, Lenovo, HP and Acer.
