Stillwell Ave. Subway Terminal (Coney Island, NY - 2001 to 2004)
Commissioned by the New York City Transit Authority to support the revitalization of Coney Island, the subway terminal was designed to be the largest photovoltaic installation of its kind in the United States. The solar array consists of 76,000 sq ft of building integrated photovoltaic panels or BIPV. The modules enclose the platforms of the subway and generate approximately 250,000 kilowatt hours per year of renewable energy. The subway terminal won the Second Annual Green Building Competition for New York City, a joint competition of the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the New York City Department of Environmental Protection.
